I wanted him to keep his independence. I also wanted our family to know when he might need us.
That is why I built NearHalo.

The experience
behind NearHalo
My father was living on his own when he suffered a stroke. He was found in his yard the next morning, just a few feet from a canal. We believe he may have been outside, unconscious, for as long as 10 to 12 hours. When he was discovered, he was disoriented and had no idea what was happening.
What stayed with me was how long he had been alone without any of us knowing he needed help.
My father has always been an independent person. I wanted to find a way to support him without taking that independence away.
A way to stay close,
without taking over.
I searched for a product that could help our family care for him while letting him continue to live his own life. That search led me to create NearHalo.
I built it around the things I wanted to understand: where he was, whether he was within a familiar safe zone, whether a fall had been reported, and what his heart rate, blood oxygen, and activity could tell us about his day.
Bringing that available information together gives my family more context and a little more peace of mind. It helps us stay connected between phone calls, visits, and the everyday moments of caring for someone we love.

NearHalo began as something personal. But the wish behind it is one many families share: we want the people we love to have their own lives, and we want to be there when they need us.
That is why I wanted to make NearHalo available to other families. Not to replace the human side of care, but to give it a little more support.

Information and alerts depend on connected devices, permissions, battery, and connectivity. NearHalo does not replace medical care, emergency services, or checking in with the people you love.
